Circolo Italiano Field Trip to North Beach April 2016

About me

I am a passionate language educator with 23 years experience teaching World Languages. I grew up in Healdsburg where I learned to communicate in both Italian and Spanish at a young age (my grandfather spoke both languages). In high school I began to take Spanish language classes, and continued taking Spanish in college, including 13 months living and studying in Lima, PerĂº. I received my B.A. in Spanish from Humboldt State University and began teaching the language shortly thereafter. Through the years I have been very blessed to have had a remarkable career teaching Spanish at 3 SRCS district high schools: Piner, Maria Carrillo, and SRHS (go Panthers!), where I have been since 2005. Around 1998, I began to teach a conversational Italian course at Maria Carrillo. I loved it but was not yet ready to establish an Italian language study program beyond the conversational class. After my daughter graduated from high school, I began to pursue that dream! She has since graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Viticulture and Enology, and in that time I have since obtained my credential in Italian, and I now teach all 4 levels of Italian at SRHS, in addition to AP Spanish and 4th year Spanish. I am so fortunate to be able to do what I love- immerse myself in Italian, Latin American and Spanish language and culture and to be able to share my passion with others. I am constantly learning in this career, and I enjoy learning from students as well as teaching them. In my spare time I hang out with an adorable chocolate lab named Izzy and enjoy lazy days on the Russian River, hiking around the hills of Healdsburg, making things grow in my garden, hanging out on California's beautiful beaches, geeking out with other language nerds from the California World Language Project, and traveling abroad every chance I can get! I am also a huge Giants fan.
