What is proficiency? What level of proficiency is required for this class?
Proficiency is achieved over time, not studied. Proficiency is using the target language in real world settings, both in and outside of the classroom. How well you use the target language determines your level of proficiency. The targeted ranges of proficiency for my classes are:

LEVEL 1 from Novice Mid

LEVEL 2 from Novice High

LEVEL 3 Intermediate Low

LEVEL 4 Intermediate Mid

AP Intermediate High

What is Proficiency Based Grading?
"Standards Based Grading (called Proficiency Based Grading in World Languages) is a set of grading practices that are criterion referenced rather than norm referenced. Students are given learning targets, or standards and are measured against them, they are never measured against each other. Formative and summative assessments are ongoing, and students are always working to improve their mastery of the standards. Formative assessments are not graded, they are treated as practice. Summative assessments may be redone or retaken until student has shown proficiency or mastery. In contrast to a traditional system, there are no points in a SBG system. Behaviors and growth are not a part of the final grade, but are reported separately. There is no punishment for behaviors with grades."

What are Performance Assessments?
Performance assessments are evaluations that measure a student's targeted level of proficiency while performing a real-world task. They are graded on rubrics.
